My Other Pregnancies

Two years later on 10 June 1972 my second baby daughter arrived, this pregnancy was completely uneventful no morning sickness, no high blood pressure , and absolutely nothing unusual I was riding horses mustering cattle a week before she was due.

Again, here . I just want to point out to you had different everybody’s labour can be . I visited my doctor on a Friday afternoon at 4:30 PM. To be told quite confidently, I will see you next week.

Saturday morning, was a busy morning as we had five relatives passing through on their way to my parents place and stopping for lunch, so I was flat out preparing everything all morning when I finally go time to have a shower I noticed a small spot of blood on my undies, but took absolutely no notice, threw them  in the laundry basket and forgot all about.

After lunch and the rallies and left  I laid down to read a good book. My husband went 3 1/2 miles to the back paddock to do some ploughing and was not due back until tea time at six o’clock.

It was about 2.00 PM when a friend of mine rang, she was working her sift on the local telephone exchange, all calls in those days had to go through a local switchboard .

We chatted for a while about every in general, and she mentioned that she was surprised I was still here. So I told her what the doctor had  said the day before and just happened to mention the small spot of blood I had spotted prior to lunch.

When her work mate came on the line to chat for a while they always worked in 2’s I though nothing of it just thinking that she was busy . So we kept chatting away, but you can imagine my surprise when five minutes later, she was standing at the end of my bed with her husband by her side.

3childrenWhere’s your bag, where’s your husband, you’re going to hospital our closest hospital was an 1-1/2 hour drive. I tried arguing that didn’t work so her husband went and found mine. She help me pack a bag and off the hospital I grugdingly went telling her I would be back for a beer in a couple of hours.

The trip to town was uneventful, and when we arrived at the hospital. Another of our friends was on staff, What are you doing here I knock off at 4.30pm it was now 4.15pm, so I told her about all the panic and said lets gt this examination over with so we can both go home.

You can again image my shock when she said “To the Labour ward now you are not going anywhere and at 4.35M my second beautiful daughter was born. I walked back from the labour ward had a shower and a smoke and waited for the doctor to arrive she weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces.

My third pregnancy was terminated at 12-1/2 weeks after two weeks of constantly vomiting all day and night the Doctors where not prepared to take the risk of a pregnancy like my first when I already had 2 little girls relying on me.

My forth pregnancy was no problem at all and just to make sure the Doctor put me into hospital and induced me a week before the due date, but I still managed to have the upper hand my wonderful son arrived during his lunch hour 45 minutes after he had called to check in on me .

I am sharing my story with you in that hope that when you time comes to go into labour you will be relaxed and looking forward to the experience. Not all of us have a hard time and either way the end result is more that worth the effort.
